I started working at AdRoll as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) in January 2016. I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by and all the things that I’ve learned along the way. AdRoll has given me the experience of working in a fast-paced, start-up environment with the structure and organizational capabilities of a well-established Fortune 500 company.

A lot has changed at AdRoll in this past year, and the constant push to grow has taught me some valuable lessons that I wish I had known earlier in my career. Since the SDR position is considered a gateway into more senior-level sales positions, I thought it would be beneficial to highlight some key ingredients to AdRoll that makes it a great place to work and a great place to start a career.


If there is one constant at AdRoll (or any other modern tech company), it’s that there will always be change. This can be intimidating at first. But, AdRoll has a support system that allows you to go to multiple people for advice or help. We’re all in this as a team and the problems we solve together will give me valuable lessons for the rest of my life.

We are an industry leader in the advertising technology space and as such are always paying attention to the latest industry trends. AdRoll’s leadership does a great job of articulating their vision and making sure all departments are well aligned. At AdRoll we are always making iterations in how we pitch products, cold call prospects, and structure our organization.

As an SDR, we are often the first point of contact for a prospective client. Senior employees are constantly coming to us to ask our opinion on any company changes and the impact they will have on our day-to-day jobs. This can be very empowering to know that you’re deeply impacting the direction in which the company is moving.


If you ask anybody at AdRoll, they’ll tell you that they’re genuinely excited to come to work every day. We hire the best and brightest people while also making sure they’re down to earth and transparent. When you’re part of a company whose north star is growth, a strong culture is paramount to moving the needle in the right direction.

Having a culture of collaboration and inclusiveness should be a key component when evaluating a prospective employer. With constant change and great new challenges that come up on a day-to-day basis, it’s important to know that you are not alone and that there are a bunch of very smart people working hard to make things better.

In the SDR position, your main responsibility is to prospect new customers and identify new opportunities. However, a major part of the role is interacting with different departments for various initiatives. You get a great sense of what different employees’ jobs consist of, which helps me inform my career path. If you have an interest in a specific topic or department, you’re encouraged to reach out and even sit in on a meeting.

Opportunities for Growth

Sales is both art and science—requiring constant practice and training to improve. While SDRs spend a majority of their time prospecting and communicating with potential clients, we also spend a significant portion of our time training. I’ve learned so much in the past year because of the importance AdRoll places on up-leveling the knowledge and skill sets of their employees.

We have our own training portal with a wealth of online resources going over everything from product information to sales tactics to productivity hacks. We also constantly have internal trainings that are led by members of different teams. I’ve been lucky to have hands-on training with our CTO, VP of Product, and VP of Engineering, to name a few.

Workplace Happiness

When I first started working here, one of the things I noticed early on is the large emphasis AdRoll places on workplace happiness. Our Culture Club works hard to organize events outside of work that keep employees engaged. From SoulCycle fundraisers to roof deck happy hours and even volunteer work, there’s always something interesting going on.

One of my favorite initiatives at AdRoll is our AdRoll Gives Back program. We have various volunteer opportunities across our five offices and continue to partner with great organizations to further build our community reach. Last year, we volunteered thousands of hours and are looking to give back even more in 2017.

The fact that we’re always busy and there’s a high level of energy in the office makes the days go by a lot faster. In addition, there are always exciting changes and challenges that are appearing on the horizon. We’re at an important point in the company’s trajectory and now is a great time to join the journey.
