Currently the Director of Global Workplace and Real Estate, Lizzy has charted her path for success at NextRoll starting out as the company’s first executive assistant nearly nine years ago. Today, she heads up the Workplace team managing facilities, workplace operations, and employee events, as well as overseeing NextRoll’s real estate, and managing its global lease portfolio and new office acquisition.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy that my role is able to have a broad impact on the organization as a whole. All of the work that my team and I do behind the scenes impacts every Roller. One of the most rewarding things is seeing a Roller experience something we’ve orchestrated, whether that’s walking into a new office for the first time or checking out the new snack offerings we just added to the kitchen – that is, when we used to be able to do both of those things!

What’s been your favorite project at NextRoll?

It’s hard to pick a favorite project, because there have been so many over the years! My most recent favorite was launching our office in Salt Lake City in September 2019. We took the space white boxed, so we could build everything from the ground up and completely customize it to suit our needs. New office acquisition and design have always been a highlight for me.

What are your career aspirations?

Being at NextRoll has given me an inside view on what it takes to launch a startup and run a successful business. I’ve seen the company go through many different stages, and I’ve learned so much along the way. My work here has helped me recognize my own entrepreneurial aspirations. I hope to one day start my own business and put all of my learnings into practice.

How do you balance work and life?

Honestly, balancing work and life has always been a struggle for me. I think this stems from my years as an executive assistant and the on-call mentality that came with that. Plus, I deeply care about my work, and it’s hard for me to turn that off most of the time. This past year has really forced me to work on this, since I now work where I live and live where I work. I make sure to carve time out in my schedule to take breaks to eat, go on a walk, or exercise. Since I’m an extroverted introvert, I also take a personal day off every few weeks for some “me time,” so I can disconnect and recharge.

What words do you live by?

I don’t necessarily have words that I live by, but staying present is a big focus of mine. It’s a constant exercise, and one that I will likely never perfect. Being present in the moment makes me feel more connected and helps me appreciate the small things in life.
